One subject, and the threads out of it

How It All Connects

Every thread on this page was computed from a record that already existed. Nothing here is a connection somebody typed in because it felt true, and a thread with no derivation is not drawn at all.

There is no map picture on purpose. A drawing places subjects at distances from each other, and nothing in this repository measures a distance between two subjects - so the picture would be saying something the evidence does not. The list below is the whole view, not a text version of a better one.

This is a wing of the library, where everything roots. The Threads hall inside the Imaginarium shows two of these relations in that room; this page is the whole set, with the record behind each one.

The 5 relations this page derives, and what each is derived from

Declared by the framework

The Adaptive Education Framework declares this pair and says why. Nothing here may invent a pair AEF has not declared, which is the rule the Weave is built under.

Derived from: AEF's interrelations list, through data/connection-map.json

11 pairs, 11 records

One volume teaches both

Somebody wrote one book that serves both subjects. That is a fact about the shelf rather than an opinion about the subjects, and the book is named.

Derived from: data/education-library.json, from a volume's own covers list

44 pairs, 59 records

The same source under both

A claim in one subject's volume and a claim in the other's rest on the same graded source. A source cited by more than 4 volumes is a general reference and draws no thread.

Derived from: data/education-library.json, from the graded sources each claim cites

94 pairs, 142 records

A practice reaches across

A practice filed under one subject is built on a claim from a volume that teaches the other. The practice and the volume are both named.

Derived from: data/practices.json, from each practice's from_library citation

23 pairs, 51 records

One thing to play serves both

A single game, drill, weave or practice fills a slot in both subjects. The census recorded that before this page existed.

Derived from: data/playable.json, from the serves list on each playable

23 pairs, 25 records

What the record actually joins, including what it does not

Of 2211 possible pairs across 67 subjects, 137 have at least one earned thread and 2074 have none. Those 137 pairs carry 288 reasons between them.

The second number is the important one and it is printed at the same size as the first. Most of this catalog is not joined up yet. A view that showed everything touching everything would be easier to build and would teach nobody anything, so the gaps are counted rather than smoothed over.

5 subjects have no thread at all: Combat sport and the fighting disciplines, Vehicles and getting around, First aid and emergencies, Outdoors and navigation, Strategy, war powers and the law of armed conflict. They are named here rather than left out of the list, because a subject that quietly does not appear looks like a subject that does not exist.

6 sources are too general to draw a thread

A source cited across many volumes joins almost every subject to almost every other, which is the same as joining none of them. These are held back from the shared-source relation, and they are listed rather than silently filtered:

  • Institute of Education Sciences โ€” What Works Clearinghouse practice guides - cited by 19 volumes
  • Cochrane โ€” systematic reviews and their plain-language summaries - cited by 16 volumes
  • Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy - cited by 13 volumes
  • CDC โ€” child development milestones and Learn the Signs materials - cited by 9 volumes
  • Ofsted (United Kingdom) โ€” published reviews of what schools teach and how - cited by 7 volumes
  • NAEYC โ€” position statements on developmentally appropriate practice - cited by 5 volumes

No thread out of Outdoors and navigation yet. Nothing in the framework, the shelf, the practices or the playable census joins it to another subject, and inventing one here to fill the space is the thing this page refuses to do. The honest answer to how does this connect is sometimes that nobody has written it down.

No thread out of Strategy, war powers and the law of armed conflict yet. Nothing in the framework, the shelf, the practices or the playable census joins it to another subject, and inventing one here to fill the space is the thing this page refuses to do. The honest answer to how does this connect is sometimes that nobody has written it down.
